Congressman John Fleming, M.D. released the following statement after Americans for Tax Reform (ATR) featured Rep Fleming's bill H.R 1397, the Seniors' Tax Simplification Act, to allow for a new simplified tax reform specific to the income needs of American seniors.

"No group has done more to advance tax relief and tax simplification than Americans for Tax Reform. I'm delighted to work with them to advance an important bill for seniors. Under current law, seniors who receive Social Security benefits are precluded from filing a 1040EZ and are in many cases forced to find professional help at great expense. My bill would create one simple form, the 1040SR, for individuals receiving pension benefits and Social Security income. This simple fix by Congress is long overdue," said Fleming.

Alexander Hendrie from ATR added, "Helping seniors across the country should be reason enough to pass this legislation, but by simplifying tax filing, this will also help take power from the out of control IRS."
