Issue Position: Support Ft. Campbell and Our Veterans

Issue Position

Date: Jan. 1, 2016

As a supporter of Fort Campbell and our many veterans, I will encourage legislation helpful to our service members and their families. Our country, and the world, faces threats today that go beyond fundamentalist terrorism. However, the threat of terrorism has been pervasive in our news media for months on end, and the issue is not diminishing.

We need to appreciate the important duty that our military men and women perform in today's heightened security climate. Our security concerns merit a strong service member count and we cannot afford to keep reducing our troop numbers at Ft. Campbell -- a string of poor decision-making from the Obama administration. Cutting government spending is important, but not at the risk of our nation's security and at the risk of jeopardizing the local Ft. Campbell community. We have watched, on the global stage, as entire cities have lost their sense of community in the face of terroristic fear. We cannot allow our country to fall prey to this fear, lest we risk losing the very things that make our communities great. By supporting our military families, we support and protect the futures of all our families.

I encourage you to talk with the veterans in your families and with the fighting men and women in active duty. They left the path of comfort and stability for you. Their day-to-day lives are vastly different from ours, as they chose lives of struggle, unmatched discipline and death. What they have accomplished and sacrificed for our communities is incomparable, and the last thing we should be doing is diminishing their sacrifices.

What they do for us is remarkable. I hope you will join me, as I fight to make the needs of Ft. Campbell and area veterans a top priority in Frankfort.
