Issue Position: Helping Those Most in Need

Issue Position

Medicaid

Rising health care costs create a burden on our economy and our state budget. Whether it's new requirements from Obamacare or the expansion of Medicaid, our job now is to figure out how to control costs in this new reality while providing proper levels of care for people who need our help.

We will continue to provide strong oversight of health care, setting forth a policy that promotes accountability, focuses on health outcomes, and finds efficiencies in our systems.
Infant mortality

Ohio has one of the worst infant mortality rates in the nation. It's unthinkable that so many babies die before their first birthday, and even more sobering is the fact that the vast majority of these deaths could easily be prevented with the right amount of education and training.

We will increase our efforts to save babies by promoting safe sleep education to new mothers, investing more time and resources into studying SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome), and adding post-partum care and other services to Ohio's Medicaid program.
