In Ohio, we've balanced our budgets without raising taxes, but in Washington, our national debt continues to grow, seemingly with no end in sight.

Now is the time to demand an Amendment to the U.S. Constitution requiring Congress to balance the federal budget so that Americans can have the responsible government we deserve.

I was the lead sponsor of a resolution in the Ohio Senate calling for the formation of a federal constitutional convention to amend the U.S. Constitution with a balanced budget requirement.

Since then, I have joined with Ohio Governor John Kasich to raise awareness about this issue and demand change. Americans understand that we have to live within our means and it's time for Congress to do its part. It's time to make the difficult choices and have a debate about how we can restore responsibility to our federal budget.
