Iowa Congressman David Young released the following statement after yesterday's vote in support of the Preventing IRS Abuse and Protecting Free Speech Act (H.R. 5053), legislation to limit the amount of contributor-identifying information the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) requires from tax-exempt organizations in their annual returns:

"I'm pleased to support this legislation which upholds the right to free speech and protects Americans' privacy," said Congressman Young. "This is also an important step to limit the amount of unnecessary information provided to the IRS, an agency which in recent months has had proven vulnerabilities and weaknesses in their policies to protect Americans' information."

This legislation passed the U.S. House of Representatives by a vote of 240-182 and next heads to the U.S. Senate for consideration.
