Reps. Keith Ellison Statement on Verizon Strike Agreement

Statement

Date: May 29, 2016
Location: Washington, DC

Rep. Keith Ellison released the following statement after Verizon and workers came to an agreement after a 44-day strike:

"Congratulations to the Verizon workers who walked the picket line for 44 days to get a strong contract. Members of the Progressive Caucus were proud to walk the line with the striking workers and will always fight for a fair economy. This deal will create more good union jobs, improve workers' standard of living, and establish the first contract for wireless retail workers. But it isn't just a good deal for Verizon employees, it's a good deal for all working Americans. Strong contracts create better jobs for union and non-union workers alike. Bad contracts, or the refusal to negotiate contracts at all, represent the historic inequality we have now.

"Thank you to both parties for coming to an agreement. This settlement represents one step on the long journey towards a fair, inclusive economy."
