Issue Position: Equality

Issue Position

Because I want to live in an inclusive North Carolina, I believe LGBTQ citizens deserve equal rights under the law. These include the opportunity to marry a partner of their choosing, to exercise standard domestic and legal rights, and to be free from discrimination at home and in the workplace.

The recently passed constitutional amendment defining marriage as between one man and one woman writes discrimination into our state's Constitution. I will fight to repeal the amendment and create a legal way for same-sex couples to marry. All North Carolinians deserve to be treated with dignity and respect, without exception.

Accordingly, women deserve to be paid equally for equal work. As an economic driver of the New South and a hub of education and higher learning, North Carolina is uniquely poised to educate and employ a new generation of both male and female business leaders. By paying women what they deserve, we can fully capitalize on their talent and maximize the economic benefit to all North Carolinians.
