Rep. Rokita Co-Chairs Hearing On Every Student Succeeds Act Implementation

Today, Rep. Todd Rokita co-chaired an Education and the Workforce Committee hearing concerning the implementation of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), which Rep. Rokita co-authored, and helped lead to the President's desk to be signed into law. The hearing, titled "Next Steps in K-12 Education: Examining Recent Efforts to Implement the Every Student Succeeds Act," is part of the Committee's oversight of the rulemaking concerning ESSA. Rep. Rokita had this to say following the hearing.

"As we enter the oversight phase of ESSA's implementation, hearings like today's help us ensure that the Department of Education is following Congressional intent, not allowing unelected bureaucrats to dictate our education policy. I am extremely proud of the work we have done through this Committee to both pass ESSA, and work towards its proper implementation."

Witnesses for today's hearing included Secretary of Education John King, Kentucky Commissioner of Education Dr. Stephen L. Pruitt, teacher Cassie Harrelson of Colorado, Daria Hall of The Education Trust, and Superintendent Dr. David R. Shuler of District 214 Township High School in Arlington Heights, IL.
