Issue Position

Sue is focused on revitalizing the local economy and creating jobs for Central Illinois families. To help connect local jobseekers with new opportunities and help them compete in a competitive job market, Sue has worked with local economic development agencies and community colleges to host job fairs and career development seminars throughout the region. Sue will fight for an annual capital construction plan to maintain our roads, bridges and schools while strengthening business development and creating jobs, and she continues to push for a law requiring companies to repay any state tax breaks they received if they moved jobs out of Illinois.

A former teacher, Sue knows that a good education opens doors for our children. During her first term in office, Sue supported two state budgets preventing the state from slashing school funding and increased education funding by hundreds of millions of dollars. Sue will continue fighting for equitable funding for local schools.

At a time when families are working hard to make ends meet, Sue knows state government must do the same. Sue has voted to cut lawmakers' pay, including her own, and she supports eliminating free health care for retired politicians. To ensure the state lives within its means, Sue is committed to going through the budget line-by-line to reduce wasteful spending and protect critical services like education, public safety and programs for seniors and veterans. Sue will continue to push for legislation reducing the size of the state's inefficient fleet of cars and eliminating state planes that shuttle politicians to and from Chicago at the expense of taxpayers.

Sue will work to protect our families from dangerous predators. She helped to pass a law closing a loophole that had allowed sex offenders to stalk children at private playgrounds, and she will work to give prosecutors more time to put rapists behind bars.
