Congressman Xavier Becerra (CA-34), Chairman of the Democratic Caucus, released the following statement on the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development designating the South Los Angeles Transit Empowerment Zone (SLATE-Z) as a Promise Zone in Los Angeles.
"At a time when Congress remains asleep at the wheel on critical issues, this new federal Promise Zone is a welcome boost for LA's neighborhoods. This federal-local partnership is about creating living wage jobs for Angelenos, investing in local businesses, ensuring students are college and career ready, and keeping our communities safe. I support the Administration in this initiative because it's how we can expand opportunity for all Americans."
