Issue Position: The Twin Tunnels Water Pipeline

Issue Position

I strongly oppose the Governor's plan to build multi-billion dollar twin tunnels which will send water from the Delta to Southern California. Southern California's Metropolitan Water District has recently made a move to purchase two key islands of land on the Delta for this very purpose! I oppose this proposal for many reasons: The first is that draining water from the Delta will negatively affect the QUALITY of our region's drinking water, making it salty and possibly undrinkable. In addition, the tunnels will severely damage the ecosystem in the Delta, affecting the livelihood of fish and plant life that are already being challenged by drought conditions. Lastly, the affect all of this will have on our local fishing and tourist industries, could devastate our regional tourist industries -- small business owners who are vital to our local economy.
