Issue Position

The Constitution has established the right to bear arms. Responsible gun ownership is in everyone's best interest and most gun advocates are trained and fully cognizant of necessary gun safety procedures. Now we need to focus on curbing gun violence. As a police chaplain, I have seen firsthand how guns in the wrong hands of criminals, the mentally unstable or in the hands of innocent children, can devastate families and cost lives. I support a ban on assault weapons -- like the ones used at so many of these recent violent massacres. After reports of children being accidently killed or wounded by guns in the home, I also support safety devices such as trigger locks on weapons when they are not in use.
