Menendez Statement on SCOTUS Whole Woman's Health v. Hellerstedt Ruling

Statement

Date: June 27, 2016
Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Sen. Bob Menendez (D-N.J.) issued the following statement in reaction to the Supreme Court's decision in the Whole Woman's Health v. Hellerstedt case, reducing obstacles to women seeking health services:

"I am pleased that today the Supreme Court, in a decisive 5-3 vote, once again acted to uphold a woman's constitutional right to access abortion services. The Texas law which the Court just abolished was a red herring, designed to expressly deny women access to health care under the guise of patient safety. Today, the Supreme Court saw through Texas' ruse and ensured that women are able to make decisions about their health care without the undue burden this law would have imposed. This is, however, just one battle in the ongoing war against women being waged by Republicans and anti-choice groups. I will continue working to ensure that all women in this country have access to the health care they need."
