Issue Position: Leadership for South Dakota's Future

Issue Position

I believe South Dakota's challenges can be solved if we commit to common sense solutions. Of course, part of the reason we've not been able to make as much progress as we would like to on growing our state economy and improving our education system is the rampant cronyism and lack of leadership we're seeing from the Republicans in charge in Pierre.

If we want things to improve at the Capitol, we Democrats need to do more than just show up for business as usual. The same old approach isn't working. We need more legislators who are ready to stand up and make sure our communities are being heard on the issues that matter. We need leaders who don't just accept the status quo as good enough -- but who are willing to speak up about our progressive values and build coalitions to get things done.

That's the kind of leader I will be in the State Senate. I have a record of bringing people together to get things done. Whether it's been helping re-elect Tim Johnson to the U.S. Senate as Minnehaha County Party Chair in 2002, leading a team effort in 2006 to limit the use of the state airplane to state business, to this year's successful effort to put Initiated Measure 21 on the ballot -- which would cap interest rates on payday, car title, and installment loans -- I've been actively working to make a positive impact for our communities for over a decade.

In this campaign, I'm proud to have received the endorsement of another great local leader, and our current state senator for District 15, Sen. Angie Buhl O'Donnell. Here's what Angie had to say about supporting my campaign:

"For the past six years, I've worked hard to be your advocate in Pierre. As I prepare to move on, I'm excited we have the chance to elect another outspoken progressive leader to represent northern Sioux Falls: Reynold Nesiba. I have worked side by side with Reynold, and he is ready to be the strong advocate our community needs in the State Senate. He has been a champion for consumers, seniors, veterans and working families, and he'll stand up for the values we've fought for during my time in the legislature. That's why I'm endorsing him.

I hope you'll join me in voting for Reynold Nesiba in the District 15 Democratic primary this Tuesday, June 7, or before. Thank you!"

I'm grateful for Angie's tremendous leadership, and with your support in this primary election on June 7, I hope to carry her work forward as the next state senator for District 15.
