Bipartisan Resolution Affirms Congressional Support for Israel

Congressman John Fleming, M.D. released the following statement after introducing a bipartisan resolution, H. Res. 798, affirming the United States' vote against a World Health Assembly measure that singled out the State of Israel, ignoring both the mission of the World Health Assembly and dire health needs in the region.

"The World Health Assembly measure -- advanced by the Arab Group and the Palestinian delegation -- is a direct hit on the Jewish State and fails miserably at its stated goal of increased health access for the Palestinian people. No other resolutions were passed against any other country, and yet the World Health Assembly passed a resolution targeting Israel. Adding to the irony, despite Palestinian terrorist activities against Israel, the people of Israel remain steadfast in their support for treating Palestinian patients and training and equipping Palestinian health care professionals.

"This pattern of anti-Semitism is unacceptable. The World Health Assembly has missed their mark for several years in a row, diverting resources from global health crisis to stoke a deep-seated disdain for Israel. Congress stands united behind Israel and calls on the World Health Assembly to do the same."

The resolution was introduced last week by Reps. Fleming (R-LA); Eliot Engel (D-NY), Co-Chair of the Congressional Israel Allies Caucus; Brendan Boyle (D-PA); and Lee Zeldin (R-NY).
