State Senator Jim Banks, Republican nominee for Indiana's Third Congressional District, made the following statement about the U.S. Supreme Court's ruling in Whole Woman's Health v. Hellerstedt:

"I am incredibly frustrated that a majority of Supreme Court justices rushed to the aid of pro-abortion activists and upheld a lower court ruling dismantling legislation critical to protecting and preserving women's health.

I am proud to have authored legislation in Indiana that led to our state adopting common-sense requirements for any medical facility; one bill requiring abortion facilities to meet basic surgical center standards and another mandating that an abortionist has admitting privileges at a local hospital or a standing agreement with a local doctor who does have those privileges. To read Justice Alito's dissent suggesting that the majority of the court let public policy and politics is a troubling miscarriage of justice.

Allen County set the standard on admitting privileges thanks to the hard work of Allen County Commissioner Nelson Peters and Allen County Right to Life. This decision puts politics ahead of health and safety and strikes a blow against local and state governments attempting to respond to very real and serious public health issues in their communities.

Putting access to abortion on demand services without regard to patient health is a dangerous precedent. This decision just strengthens my resolve to fight anti-life establishment that dominates Washington."
