Biotech Food Labeling Bill Clears the Senate

Statement

Senator Chuck Grassley made the following comment after the Senate passed legislation on a biotech food labeling bill.

"Late last night the Senate acted to prevent a single state from dictating food labeling laws to the rest of the country. Biotechnology is safe and has helped alleviate food shortages around the world. Iowa's own Norman Borlaug, who is said to have saved more people from starvation than any other person who has ever lived, understood the importance of these life-saving technologies. Chairman Roberts and Ranking Member Stabenow deserve credit for finding a way forward on this issue. No one would benefit from a patchwork of confusing state labeling laws that would result in raising costs on consumers."
