Pompeo Pleased by House Passage of Food Labeling Legislation

Statement

Date: July 14, 2016
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Mike Pompeo (R-Kansas) released the following statement in response to the passage of S. 764 in the U.S. House on a bipartisan vote of 306 - 117. Congressman Pompeo's Safe and Accurate Food Labeling Act of 2015, H.R. 1599, which served as the basis for S. 764, passed the House of Representatives on July 23, 2015.

"I would like to thank my colleagues in the House for supporting this measure, which will protect Kansas farmers and ensure that Americans continue to have access to safe and affordable food. While S. 764 is not perfect, it still prevents a nationwide patchwork of inconsistent state food labeling laws, which would have disastrous effects on food supply chains, our agriculture communities, and American families."

"We have been working diligently for three years to arrive at a responsible solution. It has been a long and difficult road, but the fight was right. I am extremely proud of the coalition we built along the way and the work we did on this issue. It will be remembered as an important moment for farmers and consumers across Kansas -- from Coffeyville to Colby and everywhere in-between."
