We need to go back to basics with the budget process and have an honest discussion about our priorities as a state and available revenues. Mary voted against the budget in 2016 not because it spent too little, but because it was fiscally irresponsible--cutting and and spending irrationally. The budget bill spent hundreds of millions of dollars on buildings, while cutting programs for the most vulnerable. Even worse, the Legislature again failed to expand Medicaid, costing the state hundreds of millions.
