Issue Position: Economic Stability for Downriver

Issue Position

Our economy is getting better, but it still hasn't reached its full potential for Downriver. Of the new jobs that have been created, most don't pay enough to sustain a family. Our greatest challenge in the future will be how we balance out our economy and ensure that people get paid for the work that they do.

Families First

No matter what, family comes first for all of us. To protect that value, we need the freedom and flexibility to know that we can take care of everyone from newborn babies to aging grandparents -- without taking a hit in our paychecks. Michigan can lead the way by providing paid family, parental, and medical leave as well as providing more affordable childcare for everyone.

Value Work and Working People

Michigan has so much work to be done -- roads to be paved, cars to be made, kids to be taught, and neighborhoods to be kept safe. But it isn't fair when people are expected to work more for less. Working people need an easier way to step up and speak up together for their rights and priorities. To ensure economic stability for Michigan families, we can raise wages, lower taxes for working people, and secure seniors' pensions.

Embrace the New Economy

Michigan's industrial might was built by 20th century entrepreneurs who dared to dream big. Today, technology and creative innovation are again the backbone of our economy. Michigan can support hardworking entrepreneurs and small business owners who want to build and grow their companies here by lowering barriers of entry, providing low-cost loans for start-ups, and increasing tax incentives to hire and keep Michigan workers.
