Issues: Marijuana Drugs

There is a current drug epidemic occurring in the 86th District. It is time that this outbreak receives the attention it deserves. Overdoses have been occurring at an alarming rate and now is the time to stop the momentum. To address the problem Thomas supports the following measures:

It is necessary to ensure law enforcement officers have all the tools needed to curtail the influx of drugs into the region. Police officers, sheriff deputies and State Troopers are the first line of defense and are best suited to keep the supply of drugs off the streets.

Drug dealers deserve to be behind bars and not out selling to our children. Thomas is against any efforts that grant leniency and endanger the future generations.

There needs to be measures taken to increase the rate of recovery. Simply cleaning someone up and sending them back out to start the process all over again is not a real solution. The status quo does not prepare our fellow citizens who struggle with addiction for success. It is time for a new strategy. This is not a problem that can be ignored because addiction affects more than just the addict. It is an epidemic which destroys families and ruins lives.

Thomas vehemently opposes any legalization of marijuana at the state level. It is a flagrant violation of the U.S. Constitution which Thomas swore an oath to fight and defend when he became a U.S. Marine. Moreover, making marijuana more accessible to our youth is only going to exacerbate the current drug epidemic.
