Issues: Religion Marriage

The Founding Fathers considered religious freedom to be the hallmark of a free society, and they labored hard to protect the free exercise of religion and prevent the federal government from establishing a specific religious denomination. Under the Obama administration, government is using its coercive power to infringe upon the beliefs of Americans from all walks of life. In fact, during the Supreme Court arguments in the same-sex marriage cases, the Obama administration's Solicitor General admitted that the government could use a Supreme Court opinion constitutionalizing the redefinition of marriage to threaten the tax exempt status of religious institutions that maintain adherence to long-standing doctrines about marriage.
Government should not use its coercive power to penalize religious institutions for beliefs regarding marriage, the right to life or other issues. Ron has fought to prevent the federal government from yanking the tax exemption for churches and synagogues due to doctrinal matters and will continue to defend people of faith against government overreach.
