Over the past two summers Jay went door-to-door in 50 Vermont communities canvassing against toxic toys, big money corrupting politics and in favor of putting a price on carbon. His job as district Manager for VPIRG was to raise citizen awareness about key conservation issues. He was voted by his 84 peers as "the person they would most like to be canvassed by."

Though Vermont is one of the Union's leading states on environmental issues, there's always room for improvement. We could do more than merely set an example for the other 49 United States, but rather we could revolutionize the meaning of renewable energy and impact the entire world in the process. Furthermore, we could do so in tandem with the aforementioned employment goals, potentially solving issues pivotal to the phenomena of youth departure.

After all, tomorrow's leaders are today's young folk, so it is up to us youth representatives to cultivate the political means of effectively fighting global climate change while also bolstering Vermont's appeal to younger people as we secure the livelihoods of future generations.
