Issue Position: Ethics & Campaign Finance Reform

Issue Position

Senator Stewart-Cousins is a strong voice for restoring the public trust in government by passing stricter ethics laws and revising the state's broken campaign finance system. This year, the Senate Democratic Conference led by Senator Stewart-Cousins introduced and advocated for a tough package of bills that would reform New York's Ethics Laws. The package included legislation that would lower contribution limits, strengthen regulations regarding the use of campaign funds, strip public officials convicted of corruption of their pensions, outlaw the use of campaign funds for criminal defense and dramatically reform the state's campaign finance system. The last bill is sponsored by Senator Stewart-Cousins and sponsored by Speaker Sheldon Silver in the New York State Assembly.
