Congressman Becerra: With Passage Of Water Resources Development Act Comes Funding For LA River Project

Statement

Date: Sept. 29, 2016
Location: Los Angeles, CA

Representative Xavier Becerra (CA-34), Chairman of the House Democratic Caucus, issued the following statement after his vote in support of H.R. 5303, the Water Resources Development Act of 2016, which included a funding authorization for the Los Angeles River restoration project.

"I'm delighted to announce that the Water Resources Development Act of 2016, which passed the House on September 28, authorizes funding for the LA River restoration project. This commitment of federal funds will support the first steps in restoring the 11-mile stretch of the river. The river's restoration would not be possible without our partnership with the federal government.

"I have worked hard with my colleagues in the Los Angeles congressional delegation to move this billion dollar project forward in Congress. We're still a long way from completion, but this funding milestone brings the dream of converting the LA River into a green asset that benefits Angelenos and our ecosystem much closer to reality."
