Darryl Glenn's Embarrassing 48-Hour Turnaround On Donald Trump

Press Release

Date: Oct. 11, 2016
Location: Denver, CO

It took Darryl Glenn less than 48 hours before he started backpedaling on his demand that Trump "step aside" and his statement that he wouldn't vote for Trump in November.

Here's a quick recap of the last 72 hours:

For months, Darryl Glenn has been Trump's biggest cheerleader in Colorado, calling Trump a "patriot" and speaking on his behalf in primetime at the Republican National Convention. Glenn even called it his "personal responsibility" to deliver Colorado for Trump.

After Trump's despicable Access Hollywood tape became public, Glenn simply said he was "disappointed," then he said he was "troubled."

Hours later, after other high-profile Republicans abandoned Trump, including Cory Gardner, Glenn said he wouldn't vote for Trump, said Trump was "disqualified" and called for him to "step down." Three different statements in 24 hours.

Then, Glenn's own backers began to revolt.

So 48 hours later, Darryl Glenn was all over TV, doing interviews on FOX News and The Denver Channel to lavish praise on Trump, making clear he's right back in Trump's camp.

Now Glenn says he's flying out-of-town to get on Trump's calendar so they can talk together in person (this isn't a joke).

Media immediately jumped on Glenn's reversal on Monday, calling it a "flip flop," a remarkable "turnabout" and "retreat[ing]."

Glenn embarrassingly tried to make his case to The Denver Channel, saying Trump "did the right thing" at Sunday night's debate.

Then on FOX News, he told Neil Cavuto that he "made a commitment to be the captain of this team here in Colorado," sounding much like the same Darryl Glenn that praised Trump as a "patriot."

The fact is that for months, Darryl Glenn stayed silent as Trump offended women, Muslims, immigrants, people with disabilities, and even a Gold Star family. Instead, he campaigned for Trump and made electing him president a central part of his campaign.

Now, it seems, Glenn's right back where he started.

"Glenn's 48-hour turnaround on Donald Trump is proof positive that for him it wasn't about principle or leadership, it was about political self-preservation," said Bennet campaign spokesperson Alyssa Roberts. "Glenn has been Trump's biggest Colorado cheerleader, calling him a "patriot' as Trump insults immigrants, Muslims, people with disabilities, women, and even a Gold Star family. Tonight Darryl Glenn owes Coloradans answers on why he is still standing with Donald Trump, even after Trump's latest despicable comments."
