Statement by Congressman Kildee on RTAB Decision to Allow Flint to Sue Michigan without Approval

Statement

Date: Oct. 27, 2016

Congressman Dan Kildee (MI-05) issued the following statement in response to the Receivership Transition Advisory Board (RTAB)'s decision to allow the city of Flint to sue the state of Michigan without prior approval.

"The effort by the state and the RTAB to block Flint residents from exercising their constitutionally protected access to the judicial system via their elected leaders is wrong. And I think this recent development may be progress, but there are still significant questions regarding what it means for the community. Until the state restores all of the Flint residents' constitutional rights, significant questions remain; particularly because the RTAB has the power to reverse this decision at any time in Flint and other communities in Michigan."
