Congresswoman Alma Adams (NC-12) released the following statement today after Governor McCrory signed bills into law limiting Governor-Elect Roy Cooper's power.

"Governor McCrory and the Republican led General Assembly chose to put their egos ahead of the people of North Carolina" said Congresswoman Adams.

"They shut out the people and the press to pass legislation stripping power away from our newly elected Governor. Their last minute power grab, once again, put North Carolina in the national spotlight for all of the wrong reasons. Roy Cooper's election made it clear North Carolinians want new leadership. Our voters entrusted Cooper with that responsibility--this is a brazen attempt to circumvent their will.

"Just last week, Governor McCrory promised a smooth transition to the next administration and instead has chosen to act vengefully. This is a strike against our democracy."
