Date: Jan. 6, 2017
Location: Washington, DC

Today, Congressman Andy Biggs issued the following statement after the House of Representatives convened for the Joint Session of Congress to count the electoral ballots for the President and Vice President of the United States:

"One of the things that sets the United States apart from many other countries is the peaceful transition of leadership between administrations. Congress has a very important role in this process and in the subsequent constitutional duties that are given to our branch of government to hold the other two branches accountable. I am pleased that we completed our constitutional responsibility by counting the electoral votes today, and I look forward to the inauguration of our next President on January 20th."
