Greetings from Washington, DC!

I hope that all of you had a great start to your new year. The 115th Congress began on Tuesday, January 3rd, and we have been busy! I have learned a lot about the process, and our office has already been able to do some big things for the district, Arizona, and the nation.

Most important in all of this, though, is my constituents and my responsibility to inform them about what I've been doing in Congress for Arizona's 5th district. That's why I will be sending out regular newsletters back home -- sign up here to make sure you don't miss out.

LOOKING BACK:

The work week started with a full day of festivities and ceremonies as all the members of the new 115th Congress were sworn into office. My favorite part about the day was being surrounded by my family throughout it all. My staff and I have been working around the clock to set up the office and our access to technology (including emails and constituents' correspondence). If you've tried to contact my office via mail or email, know that we are working hard to get to those messages and will get back to you as soon as possible. If you need immediate assistance, please reach out to our office at 202.225.2635.

On Wednesday, I joined my Republican colleagues in the House to hear Vice President-elect Mike Pence discuss the incoming administration's path forward for repealing and replacing the Affordable Care Act. I was pleased to hear the commitment to both steps as we await the inauguration. I also testified in the House Rules Committee on behalf of my two amendments to the REINS Act, which you can watch here. My amendments were meant to reduce authority of federal agencies and to restore constitutional power to Congress. One amendment would have provided additional oversight over all EPA regulations.

On Thursday, I joined my colleagues from the Arizona Congressional delegation in observing a moment of silence for the victims of the January 8, 2011 Tucson shooting.

Today, I attended a press conference hosted by Congresswoman McSally to announce the introduction of a bill to create a memorial in memory of the victims of the January 8, 2011 Tucson shooting. I am a co-sponsor of this legislation. I served with Gabby Giffords in the Arizona Legislature and remember that she was very kind to everyone around her and easy to work with and to talk to. This memorial will be a fitting legacy to her service and sacrifice.
