Congressman Biggs Applauds President Donald Trump's Executive Actions on Border Security and Immigration

Statement

Today, President Donald J. Trump took immediate steps to secure the border and protect innocent Americans from criminal illegal immigrants through executive orders.

President Trump invited two Arizonans to attend the signing in the Oval Office today -- Steve Ronnebeck and Mary Ann Mendoza, who are parents of individuals killed by illegal immigrants. Steve Ronnebeck's son, Grant Ronnebeck, was killed by an illegal immigrant inside a Mesa QT store in January 2015. Mary Ann Mendoza's son, Mesa Police Department Sgt. Brandon Mendoza, was killed in a head-on collision with a drunk illegal immigrant in 2014. Congressman Biggs has introduced Grant's Law in memory of Grant. The bill would ensure that illegal immigrants apprehended by law enforcement are not released back into our communities, preventing potential harm to law-abiding Americans. Congressman Biggs issued the following statement:

"I am extremely pleased with President Trump's actions today. In the first week of his administration, he has proven his commitment to protecting Americans and keeping his promises. President Trump is showing through his actions that the American people can take him at his word.

"While President Trump's action today is a welcome policy change for the Executive Branch, another administration could completely undo the rule of law with an executive order. It is up to Congress to ensure that legislation to secure our border and protect American citizens is passed and sent to the President's desk to be signed permanently into law.

"For this reason, I will continue to fight for the passage of Grant's Law to ensure that no future administration can blatantly disregard our nation's immigration laws or the safety of our citizens. I look forward to working with my fellow colleagues and President Trump to accomplish this very thing."
