Congressman Andy Biggs' Statement on Passage of FY17 Defense Appropriations Act

Statement

Date: March 8, 2017
Location: Washington, DC

Today, the House of Representatives passed the Department of Defense Appropriations Act for fiscal year 2017. This bill appropriates $577.9 billion for the Department of Defense ($516.1 billion in base discretionary funding and $61.8 billion in Overseas Contingency Operations / Global War on Terrorism funding). After voting on the bill's passage, Congressman Andy Biggs released the following statement:

"The Department of Defense Appropriations Act gives the United States' military the resources it requires to effectively promote peace through strength. This act allocates the necessary funding to update vital pieces of equipment, maintain a superior technological edge, and provide complete assistance to ensure that members of our Armed Forces are prepared for all battlefield scenarios. I am also pleased that this package increases our support for American veterans and accommodates manufacturing of Apache helicopters, which are made in Arizona's Fifth Congressional District. During this time of international unrest, the American people can have full confidence that President Trump and Congress understand our fundamental responsibilities to keep our citizens safe, and I am proud to have voted to support our military."
