Whitehouse Statement On 9th Circuit Ruling Against Travel Ban

Statement

Date: Feb. 9, 2017
Location: Washington, DC

Senator Sheldon Whitehouse, a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, released the following statement on the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals ruling tonight against the Trump administration's executive order banning refugees and immigrants from certain majority-Muslim nations:

"Tonight, the Ninth Circuit denied the Trump administration's appeal and joined the growing list of authorities questioning the legality of this order and whether it does anything to make us safer. That's because it doesn't make us safer. If anything, it gives terrorists a convincing sales pitch to new recruits, that the President's religious test is evidence that America is a hating, anti-Muslim country."

"Right now, the President is all-caps on Twitter. I hope he calms down, respects the constitutional judiciary, and considers whether maybe this travel ban wasn't such a great idea."
