Congressman Dan Kildee Announces $267,069 Federal Grant to Support the Flint Fire Department

Press Release

Congressman Dan Kildee (MI-05) today announced that the city of Flint's Fire Department will receive a $267,069 federal grant to support the department's public safety efforts.

The federal grant, through the Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) program, will help to replace old firefighting equipment and protective gear for firefighters.

"I am pleased to announce this federal grant to support Flint's Fire Department and help promote public safety," Congressman Kildee said. "These resources will help the Flint Fire Department remain prepared to respond to emergencies and ensure that our firefighters have the necessary protective gear to keep them safe. The men and women of the Flint Fire Department deserve our praise for their hard work and dedication and I look forward to continuing to work with them to promote public safety."

In November 2016, Congressman Kildee wrote a letter to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) in "strong support" of the city of Flint's grant application.

Since coming to Congress, Kildee has been a champion for Flint and other communities to receive federal grants to assist with public safety. Last September, Congressman Kildee helped to secure a $3.7 million Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) grant for Flint.

Eligible fire departments can apply for federal AFG and SAFER grants. These competitive grants provide money to guarantee departments are appropriately staffed with qualified professional and volunteer firefighters.
