Today, U.S. Representative Tim Walz (MN-01) released the following statement after the congressional baseball practice shooting in Alexandria, VA:

"My prayers go out to the victims and their families following the senseless shooting this morning at the Republican congressional baseball practice. My thoughts are with them during this tragic time.

"On behalf of the First District of Minnesota, I want to thank Capitol Police, Alexandria Police, Alexandria Fire, Alexandria Sheriff's Office, and the first responders for their courage and bravery, including the Capitol Police officers present who took heroic action and those who aided the victims. Our nation owes them a great debt for their service.

"The annual Congressional Baseball Game is a cherished bipartisan event for charity. Each year, Members of Congress and the Capitol Hill community look forward to attending with family, friends, and loved-ones. This horrific act will not shake our common bonds that unite us as Americans. No despicable act of violence ever will."
