Allen Votes to Secure Pay Raise, Needed Funding for Troops

Today, Congressman Rick Allen (R-Ga.-12) voted in favor of the Conference Report to accompany S. 2943, the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2017. The NDAA is the annual legislation which authorizes vital defense spending and sets priorities for America's military. S. 2943 passed the House by a bipartisan vote of 375-34. Rep. Allen issued the following statement in support:

"The NDAA is a vital piece of legislation and how Congress fulfills its most important responsibility--to provide for the common defense.

Not only does this legislation ensure the readiness and preparedness of our nation's military, it also secures the largest pay raise for our troops in six years and strengthens military healthcare.

For Georgia-12, this legislation brings needed funding back home to Fort Gordon as it expands with the Cyber Command relocating to the CSRA. Specifically, the NDAA authorizes over $100 million in military construction for Fort Gordon to ensure finalization of the U.S. Army Cyber Command Complex.

As a Member of Congress, this legislation is one of the most monumental bills we pass and I am proud each year to cast my vote in favor of it."

S. 2943, the National Defense Authorization Act:

Authorizes funding for operations in Iraq, Afghanistan and Europe

Prevents the drawdown of the military and bolsters readiness

Provides the full 2.1% pay raise for our troops

Extends critical authorities for our forces overseas and in harm's way, especially those fighting terrorism across the globe

Strengthens military healthcare

Reforms organization of the Department of Defense

Restores the National Security Council to its original purpose

Maintains prohibition on the closure of Gitmo and the transfer of detainees to the U.S.
