U.S. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) made the following statement today on the announcement by Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Commissioner Scott Gottlieb regarding the regulation of tobacco and nicotine products:

"I commend FDA Commissioner Scott Gottlieb on today's announcement, which will provide more certainty to the farmers, manufacturers, and retailers of tobacco and nicotine products in Kentucky. By extending the deadlines to review these products, the FDA will have time to ensure that they meet reasonable health and safety standards and that the agency's review process is based on scientific reasoning. It will also pave the way for the evaluation of other innovative and potentially less-harmful nicotine and tobacco-related products."
