Today, Congresswoman Alma Adams (NC-12) announced she is a founding member of the House Public Education Caucus. The Caucus includes 19 members of Congress and is chaired by Reps. Pocan and Takano. The Caucus held a kick-off event this week to voice opposition to the confirmation of Secretary of Education Nominee Betsy DeVos.
"Public schools are under attack," said Congresswoman Adams. "I believe every child has a basic right to a high quality public education. If previous actions are any indication, I am not confident that President-elect Trump's Secretary of Education Nominee Betsy DeVos or our state Superintendent share this belief.
"That's why I joined this Caucus. Throughout my career I have made it a priority to stand up for public education and I look forward to working alongside my colleagues to champion this issue."
"Congresswoman Adams is a true champion for public education," said North Carolina Association of Educators President Mark Jewell. "This is a pivotal time for public schools, and the creation of a Public Education Caucus means our public school students have a voice in Congress. We must ensure all public school students have the resources needed to be successful."
