Gibbs, House Pass Funding for Military

Statement

Date: March 8, 2017
Location: Washington, DC

On Wednesday afternoon, the House of Representatives passed the Defense Appropriations bill with overwhelming bipartisan support. After voting in favor of the legislation, Congressman Bob Gibbs released the following statement:

"The top priority of the federal government is the safety of the American people and the security of our nation. Today, I was proud to join my colleagues in an overwhelmingly bipartisan in providing the necessary resources for the men and women in uniform to do achieve that priority. Not only does this legislation maintain troop readiness for combat and peacetime missions, but it makes important investments in research and development to combat and deter future threats. Most importantly, we are investing directly in our military personnel, retired personnel, and their families with a 2.1% pay raise and increased funding for the Defense Health Program. We owe it to those who risk their lives in defense of America to make sure they receive the pay and care they deserve."
