Banks Votes for Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Act

Statement

Date: Oct. 3, 2017
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Abortion

Congressman Jim Banks (IN-03) today issued the following statement after voting for H.R. 36, the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act:

"Ten years ago, studies began to emerge proving that an unborn child is able to feel pain as early as twenty weeks post-fertilization. As our nation's understanding of fetal pain has become more advanced, protections for pain-capable unborn children have been signed into law in twenty states, including my home state of Indiana. But this is not enough. Despite claims from many pro-abortion groups, late term abortion is neither safe or, unfortunately, rare. This legislation will ensure that all fifty states have protections for vulnerable pain-capable children. I urge my colleagues in the Senate to support this important legislation."

The bill passed the House 237-189 and now heads to the Senate for consideration. A link to Congressman Banks' speech on the House floor yesterday evening in support of the bill can be found
