Rep. Jenkins Statement on HHS Nominee Alex Azar

Statement

Date: Nov. 13, 2017
Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Representative Evan Jenkins (R-W.Va.) issued the following statement today on the nomination of Alex Azar as the new secretary of Health and Human Services:

"President Trump has prioritized several key health issues, including addressing the opioid crisis and lowering the prices of prescription medications. The opioid epidemic is a public health and safety crisis in West Virginia, and many families and seniors are concerned about the high cost of prescription medications. While Mr. Azar has experience within HHS, his ties to the pharmaceutical industry must be fully reviewed during the confirmation process. West Virginians must know that Mr. Azar is fully committed to supporting the administration's priorities, including reducing opioid abuse and expanding the affordability of prescription medications."
