Blunt Rochester Issues Statement After Government Shutdown

Statement

Date: Jan. 20, 2018
Location: Washington, DC

Tonight, Congresswoman Lisa Blunt Rochester (DE-AL) issued the following statement.

"The President and Congressional Republicans let the American people down by failing to agree to a spending deal -- a choice that led to a federal government shut down," said Congresswoman Blunt Rochester. "This hurts everyone. A shutdown puts Delaware seniors, service members, federal workers, and middle-class families at risk, while jeopardizing our economic future. I believe that it's our duty as lawmakers to work together on a fiscally responsible budget deal that fully funds domestic and military spending, while also addressing key national priorities like reauthorizing the Children's Health Insurance Program, providing disaster relief, and protecting our DREAMers. I believe that we should work quickly to end this deadlock, and I call on my colleagues, on both sides of the aisle, to finalize a long-term budget deal that prioritizes the needs of the American people."
