U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) released the following statement on President Trump's announcement to impose a 30 percent tariff on imported solar panels:

"Just as the country is moving away from its dependence on harmful fossil fuels and moving toward sustainable, renewable energy, President Trump found a way to handicap the country's booming solar industry. As a leader in solar production and green jobs, Nevada's progress is threatened by President Trump's decision to impose tariffs. It is an affront to the thousands of Nevada workers who have thrived in this growing industry. This Administration's purported "America First' agenda is rife with misguided policies that come at the expense of American workers and businesses. Our solar industry has said loud and clear that they do not support these tariffs and President Trump has ignored their voices. We must prioritize investments in renewable energy, which are not only good for the environment, but also a boon for our economy. I will continue to fight for Nevada's jobs and workers. We must protect and secure Nevada's place as a leader in solar energy."
