Statement

Date: Dec. 21, 2017
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Taxes

"Today, with my support, the House delivered on our promise to cut taxes for all Americans and to simplify our burdensome tax code," Rep. John Curtis said. "The more people learn about this bill, the more they like it. This legislation helps Utah families keep more of their hard-earned money by doubling the standard deduction, by increasing the child tax credit to $2000, and by maintaining the mortgage interest tax deduction to encourage and make home ownership more achievable. By cutting corporate tax rates, this bill will boost economic growth and American prosperity."

This legislation:

Cuts taxes for families and individuals

Expands the Child Tax Credit, maintains the Mortgage Interest Deduction, and keeps other popular aspects of the tax code

Creates a 0% tax rate up to $24,000 for married couples and $12,000 for individuals

Creates a 20% tax deduction on certain pass-through income to help small businesses be successful

Lowers the corporate tax rate to 21% to make American corporations more competitive internationally and create jobs domestically
