Lujan Grisham Statement on Trump Administration's Infrastructure Plan

U.S. Representative Michelle Lujan Grisham released the following statement in response to President Trump's infrastructure plan.

"Year after year, the American Society of Civil Engineers gives our nation's infrastructure a failing grade. Our nation's aging infrastructure is a serious long-term problem that we cannot afford to ignore any longer. While I am pleased that the Trump Administration has acknowledged these issues, I have serious concerns with the plan they released today.

"First, the same day the President announced his infrastructure plan, he also announced his budget proposal to cut $168 billion in transportation and infrastructure investments in our nation's public transportation, highway, transit, rail, and waterway systems. We cannot take two steps forward and one step back. Further, his plan undermines environmental protections and limits public involvement as well as rests on the fallacy that we can shift the vast majority of the financial burden onto cash-strapped state and local governments.

"I look forward to working with the Administration and my colleagues to ensure we maintain and expand current investments in our nation's infrastructure and develop an infrastructure plan that is workable and fully funds our nation's long-term needs."
