Issues: Taxes

Today, Congressman Todd Rokita introduced the "Creating Real and Useful Middle-Class Benefits and Savings" (CRUMBS) Act to make bonuses received in 2018 tax-free up to $2,500 to help lower and middle-class families. The legislation follows the passage of President Trump's tax reform, which has led to millions of Americans receiving bonuses, pay raises, and increased benefits.

"Americans are receiving thousands of dollars in bonuses and more money in their paychecks thanks to President Trump's tax reform, but out-of-touch Democratic leaders believe they only amount to crumbs," said Congressman Todd Rokita. "The CRUMBS Act will let Americans keep more of the money they receive as a result of President Trump's tax reform, and allow them, not the government, to choose how best to spend their bonuses."

In January, Democratic House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi compared the thousands of dollars that Americans are receiving in bonuses to "crumbs." The other week, President Donald Trump compared Pelosi's "crumbs" comments to Hillary Clinton's "deplorables," while also noting that "these corporations giving tremendous bonuses to everybody that Nancy Pelosi called 'crumbs.' That could be like 'deplorable.' ... Deplorable and crumbs? ... People are getting 1,000, 2,000, 3,000 dollars. That's not crumbs. That's a lot of money."

In Indiana, thousands of Hoosiers are seeing the benefits of President Trump's tax reform in the form of higher wages, bonuses, expanded benefits, and increased investment.
