Fortenberry's Latest Statement on the Tragedy in Florida

Statement

Date: Feb. 20, 2018
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Jeff Fortenberry (R-NE) today provided the following statement on the horrific shooting tragedy in Florida:

"The anguish, heartbreak--and anger--of the families and the Florida community so violently ripped apart by this catastrophe is made even more real for those of us with high school children. Perhaps with the initial call by President Trump, a necessary review of the background check system can achieve consensus, along with a multi-dimensional national response to mental health issues."

"Congress should robustly address the issues at stake, but also resist politicizing responsible gun ownership as part of a serious national discussion on the root causes of violence. Children should be safe. I also say, 'no more."

Congressman Fortenberry is a member of the House Appropriations Committee.
