Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN) released the following statement after voting no on the Federal Aviation Administration Reauthorization Act of 2018, which passed in the U.S. House:

"I voted no on the FAA Reauthorization Act of 2018 because I strongly oppose its provision to end the Metropolitan Council's designation as the Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO), which is an outrageous encroachment on local authority," Rep. Ellison said. "We often hear from Republicans that the federal government has too much control, and that we need to put more authority in the states. Why is now any different?

"The people of Minnesota and other states across the country should be able to organize their planning organizations as they see fit, and not have it dictated to them by politicians in Washington. This provision would throw the Council into a period of uncertainty and could threaten essential funding for critical transit projects that Minnesotans need, and I hope to see it struck down in the U.S. Senate."
