Rep. Lujan Grisham on SCOTUS Nominee

Press Release

Date: July 10, 2018
Location: Washington, DC

Rep. Michelle Lujan Grisham (NM-01) released the following statement after the President announced the nomination of Judge Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court of the United States:

"I oppose the nomination of Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court of the United States. Judge Kavanaugh's reactionary judicial record threatens decades of progress for a woman's right to make their own health decisions, LGBTQ rights, civil rights, and Americans' access to health care.

"If confirmed, Judge Kavanaugh will have a critical role in determining whether Americans with pre-existing conditions will continue to have access to affordable, quality health care and whether women have the right to contraceptives and to make their own family planning decisions. He will rule on efforts to reform the campaign finance system and address political gerrymandering, and on whether or not all people should be afforded equal rights. His ideological verdicts on these issues and many others will harm the everyday lives of Americans for generations to come, which is why his nomination is being opposed by civil rights organizations and women's rights groups.

"I urge the Senate to defeat his nomination and protect our constitution, the rights of women, minorities, working families, and the LGBTQ community."
