U.S. Senator Jon Tester is demanding the U.S. Treasury Department reverse its controversial new decision to hide certain political donations.

Tester's harsh rebuke comes just hours after it was reported that Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin will allow certain political nonprofits to stop disclosing their donors who give more than $5,000.

"This is the swampiest, darkest, dirtiest decision," said Tester. "We need more transparency in our campaigns, not less."

Tester, a longtime advocate for campaign finance reform, has sponsored legislation to require organizations that participate in political activity to immediately disclose its donors.

"When special interests try to hide in the shadows, I will drag them into the light," said Tester.

Tester is sponsoring five bills to increase transparency in campaigns and reverse the impact of the U.S. Supreme Court's Citizens United decision. Information about those bills is available HERE.
